About the PDF Metadata Editor

Every PDF carries hidden document properties: a title shown in browser tabs and search results, an author, a subject and keywords. These often hold leftovers like "Microsoft Word - Draft3.docx" or a former colleague's name. This editor shows the current properties and lets you rewrite the title, author, subject and keywords, all inside your browser.

What you can do

• View the title, author, subject, keywords, creator app, producer, and creation and modification dates.
• Change or clear the title, author, subject and keywords.
• Enter keywords as a comma-separated list; each one is saved as a separate keyword.
• Download a copy with "-metadata" added to the file name.
• Clear a field completely by leaving it empty before saving.

When it works best

• Giving a PDF a proper title before publishing it on a website, so search engines and browser tabs show the right name.
• Removing a personal name or old file name before sharing a document publicly.
• Adding author and keywords for a document library or repository.
• Checking which app created a PDF and when, before trusting or forwarding it.

Things to know

• Creator, producer and dates are shown for reference but cannot be edited here; saving updates the producer and modification date automatically.
• Only the document information fields are changed. Names inside the page content, comments or images stay, so use Redact PDF to remove those.
• The file is read and saved locally; nothing is uploaded.
