About the PDF Table Extractor (AI)

Layout-based converters find tables by looking for gaps between columns, which fails on tables without borders, merged headers or cells that wrap onto several lines. This tool lets an AI model read the PDF the way a person does, recognise each table, and rewrite it as a GitHub-flavoured Markdown table. Tables come back in document order, each with a note of the page it came from where that is clear.

What you can do

  • Extract every table in a PDF of up to 25 MB as Markdown, with headers kept.
  • Get one Markdown table per source table, in the order they appear.
  • Handle tricky layouts like borderless tables, multi-line cells and tables in scanned pages the model can read.
  • Paste the result into GitHub, Notion, Obsidian or any Markdown editor, or convert it on to CSV.

When it works best

  • Pulling results tables from research papers and annual reports.
  • Capturing specification or pricing tables for documentation.
  • Rescuing tables that PDF to Excel splits into the wrong columns.

Things to know

  • Requires sign-in with a verified email and either credits or your own Anthropic or Google API key.
  • Output length is limited, so a PDF with dozens of large tables may be cut short. Split it into sections with Split PDF first.
  • Always check numbers against the source; AI models can occasionally misread or merge a value.
  • If you need a spreadsheet with formatting rather than Markdown, try PDF to Excel first, since it runs without AI. The PDF is shared with your chosen AI provider for this tool.

Frequently asked questions

GitHub-flavoured Markdown, one table per source table, in document order and with the source page noted where it is clear.

PDF to Excel uses text positions and needs no AI or account. This tool lets a model read the page, which helps with borderless tables and wrapped cells.

The model has an output length limit. If a PDF holds many large tables, split it into smaller parts with Split PDF and run each one.
