About the Fill PDF Forms

Many official forms are published as fillable PDFs, but not every viewer saves the answers properly, and some phones cannot type into them at all. This tool reads the form fields built into the file and lists them as a plain web form: text boxes, checkboxes, dropdowns and radio choices. You fill them in here, and your answers are written back into the original fields of the PDF.

What you can do

• See every fillable field in the document listed by its field name.
• Type into text fields, tick or untick checkboxes, and choose from dropdowns and radio groups.
• Start from any values already saved in the file and change only what you need.
• Download a copy with your answers stored in the form, still editable later.
• Leave any field blank that does not apply to you; empty text boxes are saved as empty rather than removed.

When it works best

• Government, tax, visa or insurance forms that were published as fillable PDFs.
• Filling the same kind of HR or onboarding form on a phone or a computer without a desktop PDF reader.
• Updating one answer in a form you saved earlier, without retyping the rest.
• Completing a supplier or customer registration form that was sent as a fillable PDF attachment.

Things to know

• It only works with real form fields. A scanned or flat form shows the message that the PDF has no fillable fields; use the PDF Editor to type on top of it instead.
• Fields are shown by their internal names, which are sometimes cryptic, such as "Text12". Compare with the printed labels on the original if a name is unclear.
• The filled fields stay editable. To lock the answers so they cannot be changed, run the result through Flatten PDF Forms.
• The form is read and filled in your browser; no data is sent anywhere.
• Fields that run a script, calculate totals or check a format in a desktop reader do not run here; check calculated values after filling.
