About the PDF to EPUB

PDFs are fixed pages, so on a small e-reader you end up zooming and scrolling sideways. EPUB text reflows to fit any screen and lets the reader pick the font size. This converter accepts either a PDF or a Word .docx file and builds a standard EPUB with a table of contents, ready for Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play Books and other readers.

Supported formats

• PDF: the text of each page is rebuilt as headings, paragraphs and tables, with one chapter per page.
• Word (.docx): the document is split into chapters at its headings, and images are kept.
• Word files without heading styles still get chapters, because lines set in a noticeably larger font are recognised as headings.
• Scanned PDFs can be converted with OCR switched on.
• The e-book includes a navigation menu, so readers can jump between chapters.

• Self-publishing a manuscript written in Word.

Things to know

• For the best e-book, start from the Word file if you have it: it gives real chapters and keeps pictures, while PDF conversion keeps text only.
• Books from PDFs have one chapter per page, titled "Page 1", "Page 2" and so on.
• Kindle devices read EPUB when you send it through Amazon's Send to Kindle service.
• Both PDF and Word uploads are limited to 25 MB. The e-book file is held only for your download and swept from the server automatically in about half an hour.
