About the PowerPoint to PDF
A slide deck sent as a PowerPoint file depends on the viewer having the right app and fonts, and animations can hide content when it is printed. Converting to PDF turns every slide into a fixed page that opens anywhere. This tool uses LibreOffice on our server to convert .pptx and older .ppt presentations, one slide per page.
What you can do
- Convert .pptx files and legacy .ppt presentations to PDF.
- Get one page per slide, at the slide's own proportions such as 16:9 or 4:3.
- Keep backgrounds, images, shapes and text placement from the original design.
- Download the result with "-converted" added to the presentation's name.
When it works best
- Sharing a pitch deck or lecture slides as a handout after a talk.
- Uploading a presentation to a portal or learning platform that only accepts PDF.
- Sending slides to someone on a phone without PowerPoint.
- Archiving the final version of a deck so later edits do not change what was presented.
Things to know
- Animations, transitions, audio and video do not carry over; each slide is shown in its final state.
- Speaker notes are not included in the PDF.
- Fonts missing on the server are replaced with similar ones, which can move text on tightly designed slides. Embedding fonts when saving the deck helps.
- Presentations can be up to 25 MB, so decks with many large images may need compressing first. The converted PDF is deleted from our server within about 30 minutes.
